New TGL Commercial Wins ABA Award for Best Small Firm Video at Annual Law Practice Management Conference

While Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman has been recognized for use of humor in past commercials, this time they have been recognized for an innovative TV advertising campaign that depicts victims of wrongful injury heroically getting on with their lives.

"There are just so many me-too and formulaic TV spots out there for personal injury law firms that these spots are a breath of fresh air for both our licensees and the viewing public...they really break through," said Joel Tractenberg, a partner at the agency that created the commercials, MM Law Firm Advertising (parent company Levinson Tractenberg Group).

The annual ABA Law Practice Management conference was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia in early November 2011. In addition to sharing practice management and legal marketing strategies, the conference also included the inaugral LPM Law Video Awards. Awards were given out to the best videos in a number of categories, include best large firm video and best small firm.

TGL continues to be recognized for their creative advertising campaigns

In a recent article in the New York Times, Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman was recognized for their use of humor in a series of television commercials. An excerpt from the October 20, 2011 article:

"In 2010, the agency [Levinson Tractenberg Group] introduced a campaign for the New York law firm of Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman that also used humor.

"It's like I had this huge, really sharp machete chopping down on me every time I tried to move," says an actress in one of the commercials. "It was the worst paper cut I ever had — they made that paper way too sharp."

The television commercials, which close with the tagline, "There are some cases even we can't win," have been viewed more than 200,000 times on YouTube.

...

Joel Levinson, a partner at the Levinson Tractenberg Group, said that the ads that did not rely on "scare tactics" or "take advantage of victims' misery" appealed to lawyers - and to consumers.

"You don't need to take such a negative approach, and we chose to take the high road," Mr. Levinson said."

NY Daily News, July 19, 2011

A Bronx family plans to sue the city Department of Education, claiming their 13-year-old daughter was repeatedly raped by a computer repairman at her school.

The incidents came to light after the girl wrote about them on May 25 in an essay for English class at Thurgood Marshall Academy in Harlem, court documents show.

Jaquan Johnson, 20, was arrested that day and hit with a slew of charges including three counts of rape for having sex with a minor and one count of sex abuse by forcible compulsion. Read More>

LawyerS Use Humor to Plead Case

New York Times, January 19, 2010

The adage about encountering the scene of a car accident you don't want to look, but can't look away may also apply to commercials for lawyers who represent victims of those accidents.  YouTube users have posted many disturbingly riveting lawyer ads from recent history, like those from the 1990s... Two sons of a woman who died of starvation after a gastric-bypass operation have been awarded more than $16.8 million in damages for their loss

March, 2008: But that won't replace their 36-year-old mom, Eufemia Martinez, who had her stomach stapled down to the size of two tablespoons and her intestines rerouted at North General Hospital in Harlem.

Asked at trial what he missed most since his mother died, Julio Martinez, who was 10 years old when she passed away, said, "My mom's hugs," as reported in the NY Post.

The Bronx mom stood 5-foot-6 and weighed 230 pounds. But the doctor "changed the records" to make her height 5-foot-3 so she could be considered morbidly obese to medically require the surgery, said attorney Jeffrey Lichtman. Read More>

12 Million Dollar Award Against Nassau County Upheld on Appeal

January, 2008: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Second Department, affirmed a $12,155,973.36 judgment against Nassau County and the driver of a car involved in a January, 13, 1995 auto accident. The accident occurred at "dead man's curve: in Farmingdale, the site of many previous accidents, some involving fatalities.

In two of the prior accidents, Nassau County had been held liable for the defective design of the road.

The plaintiff, Merryl Kihl, now a 37-year-old mother of one, was a passenger in the car and was severely injured in the one car accident. As the result of her injuries, she underwent and will be compelled in the future to undergo numerous further surgeries. It was also established at trial that for the balance of her lifetime, she would be the subject of unremitting pain and suffering only relieved by morphine based painkillers.

The judgment is one of the largest awards to be affirmed against the County.

Ms. Kihl was represented by David Corley of Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman, P.C. and Richard Kenny of the Law Offices of Richard M. Kenny. Ms. Kihl's appeal was briefed and argued by Michael Altman of the Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman law firm.

News accounts of the judgment were broadcast and printed by 1010 WINS, Newsday and The Long Islander.
